Penn State Extension is conducting a virtual Beekeeping for Beginners class, beginning March 2012. This webinar course is designed to create a foundation of beekeeping knowledge in order to confidently help beginners manage honeybees. Beekeeping for Beginners is a two-month course that will include the following:
- An eight-part, live webinar series - All sessions will be recorded and available until December 31, 2012.
- Virtual Beekeeping Field Day (May 2) - A traditional field day is an educational event where beekeepers have the opportunity to get hands-on experience with a variety of beekeeping subjects. Join us, on-line, as we open hives within the apiary and get explanations and examples on stages of larvae development, queens, queen cells, pollen and nectar storage, making splits, and much more. The Virtual Beekeeping Field Day will extend the experience of the webinar lectures, allowing new beekeepers to see the theory and science applied to an apiary.
- Accessibility to Instructors through...
- Virtual Office Hours - There will be two virtual office hours (one each in March and April) where instructors will go live with your questions and concerns of your honeybees. These will also be recorded in case you want to review them again at a later date or cannot join the group during the scheduled office hours.
- Discussion Forums - Throughout the course, instructors will answer questions posted by participants in the online discussion forums.
