Better Practice Sydney 2017

Our two-day Better Practice Sydney 2017 - Program is designed to promote high quality care, innovation in quality management and continuous improvement amongst approved providers of aged care. Better Practice is suitable for CEOs, management and senior staff in both residential and home care as well as academics in ageing, consumers, consumer advocates and anyone else who has an interest in aged care.

Our theme for 2017 is Re-thinking Aged Care: Discover, Connect, Create.  Through an exploration of this theme we want to go beyond discussing quality within the current aged care provision paradigm to explore opportunities and challenge ourselves to consider what is needed to deliver on expectations about the quality of care and services in aged care.

As part of this we want to explore:

  • What do we mean by the term 'ageing well'?
  • What implications does this hold for quality service delivery, grounded firmly in the individual needs and expectations of consumers?
  • What does it mean to be an empowered consumer of aged care services within this context and how do we enable consumers to exercise real choice and control?
  • How can we enable, enrich the quality of life for our consumers?
  • How do we build a community of care that values and enables our elders to contribute and continue to find value, purpose and meaning.

Join us as we explore these issues and their implications for those delivering support and those receiving it.

This year, there has been an exciting change to the conference program with the inclusion of practical workshops focusing on a range of key topics including the new Aged Care Standards, co-design in aged care, organisational change and cultural transformation. Workshops are at no additional cost; however, registration is required to secure your seat. Each Better Practice program reflects a local flavour of key issues, so refer to the program, registration and venue pages for further information.

We want to challenge thinking, promote discussion and provide practical information about better practice.  Better Practice is brought to you by Australian Aged Care Quality Agency. Bring your staff, bring your colleagues, this event is not to be missed.

A Masterclass with Dr Al Power, USA and Alzheimer’s Australia NSW
Transforming your model of dementia practice and culture of care

Alzheimer’s Australia NSW invites you to a highly interactive masterclass on transforming your model of dementia practice and culture of care facilitated by Dr Al Power, geriatrician and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Rochester, New York. This masterclass is taking place on Wednesday, 16 August 2017.

In this masterclass, Dr Power introduce a framework for viewing wellbeing and show how it creates a proactive, strengths-based approach that reaches beyond our usual care practices. Dr Power will show how these various components of wellbeing can be operationalized in daily care – within the usual time, staffing, and regulatory constraints – and describe the transformational processes that can enable us to shift operations, in order to think and act differently.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear Dr Al Power’s insights on becoming a dementia care provider of choice for consumers.
