Bio-Emulation™ advanced photo protocols taking dental photography to the next level
Dental photography has become a standard in dentistry for different applications including case reference (before/after), colour analysis, morphology analysis, orthodontic study, aesthetic analysis, phonetic tests, patient communication and communication with dental laboratory. Even though cameras allow for a full automated process of taking pictures, this workflow does not fulfil our expectations on achieving the image quality we consider as high standard. Mastering dental photography requires some extended knowledge over the simple "point and shoot" action, in order to release the full potential of the modern digital reflex cameras. The use of specific light modifiers like polar_eyes, fluor_eyes and bouncers together with RAW capture and standardized white balance, enable a deeper analysis of light dynamics and texture information, the keys for successful shade and shape planning of direct and indirect aesthetic restorations

Emulation of teeth aging with composite resin: Challenges and feasibility
The Bio-Emulation approach as written in structural analysis and visual synthesis defined the new bases to consider for replication of natural tooth structures with composite resin. The penta-laminar concept represents the ultimate implementation of this philosophy: analysing different aging stages to build a dynamic shade concept that adapts to nature. However, feasibility of application of this concept is compromised by its intrinsic complexity, not accessible to all clinical conditions. By analysing the key factors of natural structure’s aging process and applying this knowledge to the material selection, it is possible to simplify techniques to make them approachable in all situations. From a bi-laminar technique to the penta-laminar technique we can learn to adapt our work in order to optimize the clinical outcome achieving cost-effective treatments to cover our patient’s needs and expectations.
