How do we help clients develop meaning and narratives from their sensations and experiences of the body? How do we do this in ways that do not impose truths or theories upon them but let their own understandings, metaphors and preferred stories emerge?
These are some of the questions we explore in this workshop that looks at bridging Narrative Therapy practices with somatic based approaches such as Somatic Experiencing and Interpersonal Neurobiology. Sarah has found bridging these practices very useful in working with people struggling with the effects of trauma, chronic pain and injury. When working with painful body stories, it is not always easy to find ways for clients to experience a felt sense of safety and agency. Sarah will demonstrate this with a case example and help you develop skills with practice exercises.
