This group workshop is well suited for:

- Workers in agencies who are developing coordinated strategies for front end services

- Workers in hospitals, agencies, addictions services and child welfare who value developing mutual supports and skills training that can better serve their population.

- Social workers, psychotherapists and CYW's who wish to expand their skills in group leading with both youth and/or adult/parent groups

Description

In an era of "doing more with less", time-limited groups have a larger role with many agencies and practitioners. This workshop will explore the use of brief therapy practices with a wide variety of time-limited groups such as parent-teen conflict resolution groups, anti-anxiety groups, multi family groups and family adventure weekends.  Specific tools and group leader practices and will be examined for the different stages of group development from pre-screening to endings and booster groups. Participants will have an opportunity to sample experiential exercises as well as debriefing tools.

You will learn:

  • Pre-screening practices in order to develop a common working focus
  • Worker positioning and practices at different stages of group development
  • A range of reflective and experiential tools
  • Skills for naming and managing power struggles, blame and conflict
  • Utilizing concurrent groups as consultants for each other
