Canadian Chapter CoreNet Panel: Climate Disruption, meet Enterprise Risk Management: How effective planning protects your real estate assets and your bottom line

Summary

The Internet of Things (IoT) will create massive disruption in telecommunications, cable/ broadband, cloud computing and even how we define the Internet. This will significantly impact how we live and the way we do business.

However, there is another disruptor facing corporate real estate (CRE) which is just as impactful and as much of a game-changer as the IoT: Climate Disruption.

Climate change can no longer be spoken of as something that will happen in 10 years’ time. It poses a serious threat to our environment, health and economy. The evidence is clear: ‘100-year floods’ have become 10-year floods, the IoT and requirements around Big Data means more data centers, more cloud computing and more energy wasted. As CRE professionals, we need to manage energy consumption, address potential risks such as floods, fires and erratic weather, while at the same time, ensuring a consistent ‘business as usual’ approach.

• What kind of climate disruption can we expect to face and what
preparations have leading businesses made to ensure minimal damage to real estate assets when disaster strikes?
• Do you have an Enterprise Risk Management Strategy for your real estate portfolio? How should the CRE industry identify and address gaps in their ERM Planning?
• What are leading corporate real estate end users and service providers doing to ensure the enterprise can operate effectively in the face of climate disruption?
• What should an effective ERM plan take into consideration?

A panel of experts, from Academia, Insurance, CRE Service Providers and CRE End Users will discuss the impact of climate disruption and how the CRE industry must identify, embrace and implement long-term ERM Plans to ensure the longevity and sustainability of their businesses.

The future is now.
