Program Overview

Join us for our Caring for Elders 12th Annual Geriatric Teaching Day.

This conference has been designed for professionals and para-professionals who provide care to elders including nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, patient care technicians, nursing assistants, students and others interested in the health of elders.

After participating in this conference, attendees will be able to:

1. Describe how to recognize empathy fatigue and learn to use mindfulness practices to help support and renew participants and their team
2. Identify ways to sensitively broach the topic of stopping or limiting driving and who should deliver the productive conversation.
3. Define and understand the implications of health literacy
4. Describe techniques for clearer written communication and demonstrate techniques for clearer verbal communication
5. Describe ways to assess older adults with cancer
6. Describe the care process involved in treating older adults with cancer
7. Identify risk factors and causes of delirium and understand principles of prevention and management
