This is the employee benefits event that is made by benefit advisors, for benefit advisors. You will walk away with tangible tools that you can put into place, to make a difference in your practice today.
If you are tired of the events that are nothing more that insurer product pushes, then look no farther. If you've had enough of programs that you see no value in, and that neither you or your clients want to hear about, let alone implement, then this is the place for you.
Invest in an event that will make you better, while adding more value to your clients.
MORNING SESSION
Topic: Employment Law – The Risks Employers Face in Benefits
Speaker: Cameron R. Wardell - Mathews, Dinsdale & Clark LLP
Understanding employer liability regarding employment benefits is an absolute must. This seminar will educate attendees on spotting potential risks to themselves and their clients, and cover topics such as (i) employers’ obligations when ending benefits coverage, including obligations to provide benefits beyond termination; (ii) potential grounds for negligence in administering benefits policies; (iii) human rights issues that may arise in the administration of these polices; and (iv) employers’ obligations under the BC Employment Standards Act.
Topic: An advisors perspective
Speaker: Laurie MacNeil – MacNeil Benefits
Advisors wear “many hats” - from Human Resources support, to negotiator, to go-between, the hero and the heel depending on the renewal and the client receiving it. Employers also face a multitude of common liabilities on a daily basis, and it's up to us to protect and put our client first. Put these together and our role has never been more important. Laurie will identify and suggest the areas where you can make a real difference in the business life of your client.
AFTERNOON SESSION
What matters to you - An open discussion over lunch
Topic: Building and Using a Plan Administration Checklist
Speaker: Dave Patriarche – Mainstay Insurance Brokerage Inc.
This seminar is a must for those who specialize in employee benefits and want to stand out from the "hobbyists" we run into every day.
We will help you create a checklist to utilize when you install new cases, train new plan administrators and conduct client renewals. Information reviewed will include: taxation, privacy, administration, HR issues and other items that will help reduce both broker and client liability.
The content will add more value to your client relationships and move the discussion away from price, to one of added value. We guarantee that you will learn things to help attract new clients, maintain existing relationships and improve your practice.
Topic: When Tech meets Benefits
We’ve all been hearing about the startups that are “disrupting” the employee benefits industry. How many are there? How are they trying to differentiate themselves?
In this session, we’ll look at our competition (some you know of, and some that you may not have heard of), and what tools and platforms that advisors have to compete.
