This workshop aims to challenge care providers understanding of changes in behaviour that are associated with dementia, particularly those behaviours that may be considered difficult. It raises awareness and encourages practical strategies based in research, to prevent, minimise and understand behaviour that is distressing or dangerous for the person or others. Participants will examine the biological, psychological, social and environmental factors that contribute to behaviour change and will explore ways to meet behaviourally expressed need for people living with dementia. The importance of self-reflection and self-care form part of this holistic approach.
