    Consumer Lending Focus Group
Back by popular demand: the Consumer Lending Focus Group. Whether you know you are making consumer loans, or worry that you might be, this focus group is for you. We’ll be covering two very important issues in today’s consumer world – The Ability to Repay (ATR) rule and the new Fannie/Freddie Uniform Residential Loan Application (URLA). There are probably more questions among our members about ATR than any other consumer regulation. Get the answers you need to operate safely within the confines of this reg. And find out what the new URLA is all about. With its dynamic programming, it’s a real industry game-changer. As an added bonus, you will be able to attend a demo from your preferred LOS software vendor to see how their program will work for you. This jam-packed session is a can’t miss!

    Interview with the new DFPI
The newly created Dept. of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) has been given very broad regulatory authority and oversight in the world of California consumer and business finance. As the DFPI works out its core mission, wouldn’t it be nice to understand what sorts of financial activities this agency will begin to focus on? Our very own Michael Belote will interview Suzanne Martindale, the new Senior Deputy Commissioner of Consumer Financial Protection at the DFPI, to provide insight into their regulatory direction and how it might affect the private lending industry in the state. Arm yourself with insight to help navigate your business strategy within these new regulatory waters.
    Speakers:
    9:45 AM  -  10:30 AM
Contacts, Content and Consistency: Marketing Ideas for the Private Lender
Is your marketing plan producing the results you need? Are you doing everything you should? Most of us would be hard-pressed to answer ‘yes’ to both of these questions. Marketing plans can always be improved upon. You want to grow your business. Both Karen Gunther and Steve Belleville have years of experience in marketing. They will bring you practical ideas that you can put into practice in your business today to help you do just that.
    9:45 AM  -  10:30 AM
Managing Current Title and Escrow Challenges
Are you experiencing any of the following title and escrow issues: limitations on your coverage options, the amount of coverage you can get, and the amount of cash out allowed…as well as more stringent document signing, closing, and payoff procedures? Title company policies can have a substantial impact on the private lender’s ability to do business and there is no question that some title and escrow companies view private lenders in a more negative light than institutional lenders. Stephen Rexrode will lead a presentation that will cover some of the more difficult issues you may face when working with title companies, what some lenders do to resolve or work around those issues, and what CMA and its members can do going forward to make title companies more comfortable working with responsible private lenders (like you).

Jason both litigates private money lending cases and represents CMA Members in transactional and other legal work.
