As CNG cylinders for heavy-duty vehicles have increased in size, today’s natural gas vehicles are capable of storing more fuel and traveling farther between fill ups. However, larger cylinders—especially belly-mounted cylinders found in saddle-mount applications—present special challenges for CNG fuel system inspectors. This is because larger cylinders have increased capacity for expanding and contracting and there are structural effects on gaskets, mounting brackets and bolts. In this Tech Talk, NGVi’s expert trainers Gordon Larsen and Bill Marchetti will share what to look for when inspecting large CNG cylinders to ensure your vehicles are safe, and what to do if you discover potentially unsafe conditions.
