Follows Current Exam Blueprint:
CNRN Exam Review
The field of neuroscience nursing is rapidly growing, with new stroke centers developing throughout the country. Neuroscience nurses are the experts in caring for the neurological patients ranging from strokes, traumatic brain injuries to brain tumors. The neuroscience nurse must be prepared to care for these patients from the fast
moving emergency room all the way through until the rehabilitation phase. This course is designed to assist that nurse in meeting the challenges specific to neuroscience nursing, both in the adult and pediatric patient, by preparing the nurse for the CNRN Exam. This review course serves as a comprehensive, focused course geared towards delivering challenging topics in an easy to understand manner and recall information for testing. The course follows the blueprint provided by the American Board of Neuroscience Nursing.
Discuss the importance of rapid recognition, assessment, and management of a stroke victim in the emergency department.
Describe the common mechanisms of injury in both traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injured patients.
Identify those neurological patients at a greater risk for seizures and discuss management in the acute care setting during a seizure.
Select appropriate rehabilitation care of patients with motor, sensory, and language deficits from a neurological disorder.
Discuss the more common neurological disorders seen in the pediatric population and identify findings on neurological assessment.
Differentiate the characteristics of the neuromuscular and autoimmune neurological disorders.
Discuss the traits of the new neurological encephalopathies called the prion disorders.
