Coffee and a Course: Elevator Technology with Destination Dispatching & Modernizations


Join AIA|DC and Michael Blades & Associates, Ltd. for a discussion of new elevator technology. Stephen Fox will present an overview of various types of elevators. He will then discuss destination dispatching and how it can contribute to faster travel and create a more energy efficient system.

Mark Belcher will present various types of modernization, which includes destination dispatching, but also controls, cab interiors, door equipment, and fixtures. Making these upgrades to elevator systems can lead to greater reliability, efficiency, safety, rise extension, and possibly even LEED qualification.

2. Describe basic principles of destination dispatching used for traffic handling;
