Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is often overlooked for kids, whose verbal and cognitive skills are still emerging and whose attention spans are more limited. Research has shown that by incorporating expressive therapies such as play and art techniques, CBT can be successfully adapted to be developmentally sensitive to kids and abstract concepts can be made concrete through the use of props and the inclusion of structured experiential learning.
This innovative workshop will help you understand the special considerations of using CBT with kids and will provide specific tools, practices, guidelines and tips on how to simplify and adapt existing CBT strategies to be more hands-on and engaging, as well as how to engage caregivers in treatment. Several play based CBT interventions will be presented "hands-on".
