Dr Alan Finkel commenced as Australia’s Chief Scientist on 25 January 2016. Dr Finkel has an extensive science background as an entrepreneur, engineer, neuroscientist and educator. Prior to becoming Chief Scientist, he was the Chancellor of Monash University and President of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE). Committed to science education, Dr Finkel co-founded Cosmos Magazine, which in addition to magazine publishing operates a secondary schools science education program.
Professor Neal Menzies is Head of UQ’s School of Agriculture and Food Sciences, Dean of Agriculture and Professor of Soil and Environmental Science and a member of the Cooperative Centre for Contamination Assessment and Remediation of the Environment (CRC-CARE). With a passion for the environment, Professor Menzies has used his role as a teacher and research leader to bring others into this highly rewarding field of soil and environmental science. While his research spans a range of environmental chemistry issues, he considers himself primarily a soil scientist, and sees soil science as a central discipline in the solution of a broad range of problems.
Dr Alex Zelinsky is Australia's Chief Defence Scientist, a Computer Scientist, a Systems Engineer and a Roboticist. His career spans innovation, science and technology, research and development, commercial start-ups and education. As Chief Defence Scientist he leads Australia's Defence Science and Technology Organisation, having served in that position since March 2012.
Dr Stefan Hajkowicz' research aims to help organisations explore plausible futures and make wise choices. His research background lies in the fields of geography, economics and decision theory. In his role as Senior Principal Scientist at CSIRO, he conducts original research and provides consultancy and advisory services to companies and governments. He leads a small and growing team of researchers and consultants working on strategic foresight with a focus on the digital economy.
