Contemporary Oral Pathology

  • Review the use of history, clinical features and follow-up evaluation in the diagnosis and management of common and potentially serious conditions associated with oral ulcers and vesiculo-erosive disease
  • Re-examine the clinical and radiographic features of common and significant odontogenic cysts and tumors together with current management strategies
  • Review the diagnostic features of common and biologically aggressive skin lesions of the face and neck as well as the indications for patient referral

Bad to the Bone: Dental Oncology for the Restorative Dental Team
  • Develop an understanding of the nature of dental oncology patients, including those undergoing radiation therapy, anti-resorptive therapy and immunosuppressive therapy
  • Develop an appreciation for the value of proper consultation with other members of the cancer treatment team. Cancer-specific guidelines will be presented for effective consultation with our medical colleagues
  • Develop an understanding of osteoradionecrosis (ORN) and medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ), including the dental implications of both conditions
  • Develop a rationale for comprehensive case assessment and treatment planning for restorative dental care of the oncology patient. Post-treatment supportive strategies will also be discussed
