Continuing Education for Family Advocates

Continuing Education for Family Advocates: Advanced Empathic Communication Skills and Working with Grandfamilies

This is a two-day training open to family advocates of all experience levels.

One day of training will focus on Advanced Empathic Communication Skills and will provide in-depth training on strategies advocates can use to communicate with families during times of crisis or emotional distress. This training will include didactic instruction, modeling, and interactive activities.

This training will also include a full-day of instruction on Working with Grandfamilies. Grandfamilies are families in which children reside with and are being raised by grandparents, other extended family members, and adults with whom they have a close family-like relationship such as godparents and close family friends. This training will address the unique dynamics of and challenges faced by grandfamilies and will discuss special considerations for working with these families in the role of a CAC family advocate.
