Storytelling with Humans of St. LouisHow Listening Leads to Inspiration, Connection &Audience Engagement
Who doesn't love a good story? But what makes a good story an engaging, captivating one that evokes compassion? Join Lindy Drew, co-founder, lead storyteller and project manager of Humans of St. Louis (HOSTL) in a presentation that will highlight how she helped bring stories organically to life for various organizations in the St. Louis region, including: Forward Through Ferguson, Missouri Foundation for Health and the Migrant & Immigrant Community Action Project, just to name a few.
This presentation will leave you inspired to discover new and original ways to tell your organization's or donor's story...one photo, one person at a time.
After studying at the University of Arizona and the International Center of Photography, Lindy Drew, MSW, MPH traveled for three years, winding up in Latin America's backbone to share people's stories in the spirit of documentary photography. Upon returning to the U.S., she worked with Casa de Sueños in Phoenix to help care for unaccompanied undocumented minors and reunify them with their family in the states. Lindy graduated in May 2016 with a Masters of Social Work and Public Health from the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis. During her education, she co-founded Humans of St. Louis to have a creative break from classes, while sharing an intimate look into the lives and struggles of the people of St. Louis, one photo and story at a time. By engaging strangers in insightful personal interviews, the HOSTL team produces visual stories that represent part of the larger community conversations and regional development taking place in St. Louis. Lindy produces new stories for HOSTL's online presence, presents at institutions about the art of storytelling, and manages the book project's local creative content team.
