This training is intended to help clinical staff define cultural competence when working with Latino clients and their families. Culture, health beliefs and practices will be looked upon through the lenses of two prominent archetypes (e.g., “La Virgen de Guadalupe” & “La Malinche”) and how it is presented in the Latino Community. Participants will be able to define treatment issues as well as mythical folk tales such as “El Chupacabra” and “el Cucuy.”
The presentation will follow a lecture format; however, there will be an interactive exercise of discussion and analysis on a given case vignette.
