Overview: Through a cooperative learning approach participants in this continuing education course will gain competencies in curriculum, teaching and learning in public health leading to a certificate in college teaching preparation. Self-reflection and goal identification will be the first task of participants to establish learner and faculty expectations throughout the course. The scholarship on curriculum, teaching and learning will be presented by UIC faculty offering a unique topic in the first of two learning sessions each month throughout the academic year. In the second session each month, participants will reflect upon and engage in dialogue regarding each theme related to their specific developmental goals and needs. Learner outcomes include observing and receiving feedback on teaching and creating a teaching portfolio. The course will culminate with participant presentations illustrating an aspect of individual teaching portfolios of interest to group. The course will be supported by the growing learning community of faculty, doctoral students, teaching scholars, staff and students of the School of Public Health.
