Invitation to Host an Evangel School of Urban Church Planting

For over twenty years World Impact and The Urban Ministry Institute have been equipping church planters working among the urban poor in the United States and around the world. Thousands of urban church leaders have received church plant training during this time and more than 150 church plants have been commissioned in partnership with local churches, associations, and denominations.

World Impact and The Urban Ministry Institute (TUMI) are looking for partners who are called to plant new churches among the poor. By our 50th anniversary World Impact and TUMI hope to see at least 300 new churches planted in America’s inner cities. In order to reach this goal, TUMI is also looking for partners to sponsor and host at least thirty Evangel School of Urban Church Planting between now and 2021.

The Evangel School of Urban Church Planting provides a tool for urban churches, denominations, and mission agencies to host a contextualized church plant school in their city or region for those God has called to plant churches among the urban poor. If you are interested in becoming certified to host an Evangel School of Urban Church Planting you will need to attend and complete the Evangel Dean Training. Leaders responsible for assessing, training, commissioning, and/or coaching church planters working among the poor are welcome to register for Evangel.

Please complete the application at this location (Enlistment: Evangel School Application) and receive approval from our National Director of Church Planting, before you register.

Evangel’s Dean Training

While the original Evangel School of Urban Church Planting was held in 2000, 2015 was the first time that TUMI officially certified other groups to run Evangel Church Planting Schools. In order to host an Evangel School, it is necessary for each potential church plant school to send at least two deans for certification to an Evangel dean training.

The next dean training is scheduled for October 25-28, 2017 in Wichita, KS.  It aims to provide excellent equipping for church plant trainers working among the urban poor through the commissioning of deans certified to run Evangel Church Plant Schools in their own ministry context.

Those who complete the training and are certified will be authorized to host Evangel Schools with Evangel resources in their ministry contexts.

Training Objectives

  • Provide specialized and sustainable training for church planters working among the urban poor (e.g. WI Associates, bi-vocational church planters, church planting missionaries, denominational church planters, etc.)
  • Equip church plant teams within their ministry context by providing Evangel schools in urban centers across the United States and the world.
  • Create a network of skilled trainers who can host schools in multiple locations around the United States.
  • Partner with TUMI satellites, urban church associations, and denominations to host Evangel Schools around the country.
