Dining with Diabetes is a program for adults with type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes and their families that will increase knowledge of healthy food choices and diabetes management. The classes offer healthy meal planning, food demonstrations, class discussions, and new physical activity choices.

Class Details

Trained Extension Educators, in consultation with registered dietitians and diabetes educators, will lead discussions addressing:

  • Important numbers you need to know
  • Planning healthy meals
  • Healthy food preparation
  • Physical activity

Classes are offered for four or five sessions, with a follow-up class. Each class offers food demonstrations and tasting, physical activity and ideas to take home, and discussions regarding important information to help you manage your diabetes. Lab tests will be offered to measure HbA1c. In addition to class handouts and test results, participants also receive the following resources: exercise DVD, resistance band for exercising, Joslin Diabetes Center educational materials, complete collection of Dining with Diabetes recipes, and Plate Method placemat.

If you have been told that you have Type 2 diabetes, you will want to attend this class!

Important Note: Physical activity is part of the program and may be offered at the first class. Please dress accordingly.
