This workshop is intended for professionals who work with children who have hearing loss and come from families that are bilingual or do not speak the majority language. Topics covered will include assessment considerations that need to be made when completing a case history, determining the language of assessment, and administering and interpreting formal and informal assessment. Discussion on intervention will include determining the language or languages of intervention, models of intervention, and implementing strategies that facilitate successful bilingual learning. Case studies will be provided. Additionally, technology to best meet a child’s audiologic needs and assessment and rehabilitation materials will be reviewed.
Michael Douglas, author of Dual-Language Learning for Children with Hearing Loss is the featured speaker. His book was purchased by MED-EL and he does not receive royalties on the material. Continuing Education Units: This program is offered for up to 0.5 CEUs by the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and 0.5 CEUs by the American Academy of Audiology (AAA) and AG Bell Academy for Listening and Spoken Language (LSLS) to offer 5.0 clock hours. Certificates of completion will be provided for documentation of continuing education and state licensing boards.
