Summary

The E Design 2020 conference is a first-of-its-kind event focused on creating utility products, services, and experiences for the customer of today and tomorrow, facilitated by design experts from outside the utility space as well as forward-thinking utility leaders. Our objective is nothing short of creating a path to the utility customer portfolio of the future. This two-day, immersive gathering will highlight innovative approaches and design-thinking experiences from a variety of industries to show you how these strategies can be applied at your utility. You’ll learn how a shift in culture can start with empathy for your customers.

“Deep empathy for people makes our observations powerful sources of inspiration. Being human-centered is at the core of our innovation process.” —David Kelley, Founder, IDEO

Design thinking creates new ways of problem-solving, new approaches to revealing customers’ underlying needs, and new methods of developing products and services through rapid prototyping. At the E Design 2020 conference, we’ll leave our comfort zones, uncover high-potential partnerships, and discover ways to embrace technological changes that will affect residential and nonresidential customers.

Utilities can employ design thinking when:

  • Developing new solutions for solar and other distributed energy resources (DERs)
  • Creating offerings for the smart home
  • Improving demand-side management program effectiveness and participation
  • Creating different and superior omnichannel customer experiences
  • Discovering new revenue-generating products and services that customers actually want

“If I had an hour to solve a problem, I’d spend 55 minutes thinking about the problem and 5 minutes thinking about solutions.” —Albert Einstein
