MED-EL is excited to announce commercial availability of our new Electric Acoustic Stimulation (EAS) Cochlear Implant System in the USA. This new system is a cochlear implant that is intended for people with high frequency hearing loss. The system consists of a cochlear implant with a special audio processor that can deliver both electrical stimulation to the implant along with amplified sound for the low frequencies. EAS is a new solution for adults who have not been able to qualify for a traditional cochlear implant due to significant low frequency residual hearing, but whose high frequency hearing loss is difficult to fit with a hearing aid. These candidates experience their greatest listening difficulty in background noise.
The EAS Cochlear Implant System includes a number of new products and features. This training will introduce the new indication, outcomes of our extensive clinical trial, EAS candidacy criteria, the features of the SONNET EAS Audio Processor, and fitting guidelines within our MAESTRO System Software 6.0.
