The East Africa Gas Forum will focus heavily on the strategic, commercial, and geopolitical issues related to the development of gas resources within this region, particularly in light of major recent discoveries.
Recent offshore discoveries and their strong commercial potential, as well as the high probability of investment in infrastructure to support LNG exports, means East Africa is now a game changer for the global gas market; the potential is enormous. The region has been touted as an important source of supply to the Asia Pacific basin, and the volumes of potential reserves will have enormous lateral effects on some of the least economically stable areas on Earth.
Eni’s massive gas find in Mozambique, as well as other exciting news on the horizon, have made potential investors eager to know what government policy will be with regards to the monetisation of these reserves. Other important questions being asked are: what the history of government-business relations is in the region; to what extent gas from Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, and Madagascar, among other countries in the region, will fit into the global energy mix; and what will it cost to secure offshore assets in light of increasing levels of piracy. However, despite these challenges, the region presents some of the most promising opportunities of any recent discoveries.
Gastech Specialist Events will host the East Africa Gas Forum on the 5 - 7 September, 2012 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The Forum will bring together government officials, IOCs, NOCs, operators, EPC specialists, local contractors and regional experts, and foreign and domestic investors, to support the development of a long-standing annual event for the benefit of regional development in the East African region.
