Dear EATA Colleagues!
Welcome to the Registration Site for the 72nd Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association’s Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium. Like you, I am always excited to gather together, learn together, network with old and new friends, and celebrate our collective accomplishments. The EATA Executive Board, Conference Planning Group, Research Committee and Student Delegation have worked hard to bring you more options than ever before.
Friday starts off with 4 EBP Workshops, an Educators and Preceptors Summit, and an Emergency Care (E-Care) for Athletes Summit. A total of 4 Category A and 11 EBP’s are available for these pre-conference sessions. The official conference kicks off Saturday morning with welcoming remarks by John Hauth, EATA President. New this year, we are offering two concurrent sessions for the general membership throughout Saturday and Sunday, while continuing to have singular back-to-back sessions on Monday. Twelve of those sessions are eligible for EBP, while five will meet Category A CEU’s. There are also plenty of EBP and Category A workshops throughout the weekend.
Also new this year is the opportunity to learn along side our students! They have put together a wide variety of sessions; some of which have direct impact on classroom learning and clinical applications. Those sessions are labeled as Joint Sessions in the program and are eligible for Category A CEU’s.
We have another new offering this year in response to many of you who have food related requests. We are offering you the option to choose gluten free and/or vegetarian options at our banquet! There will also be a lunch concession stand on Saturday and Sunday where you can choose from sandwiches and salads. It will be located in the same area as the on-site registration, right outside a large room set up with tables and chairs for your convenience.
The site of our 72nd meeting is Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, CT, January 10-13, 2020. The Foxwoods personnel have gone out of their way to put out the welcome mat to ensure that this meeting will be the best yet! The hotel offers free parking and there are plenty of wonderful restaurants and shops throughout the complex.
Please take a moment to review the 2020 Compendium which includes information about the Educators and Preceptors Summit, the E-Care for Athletes Summit, the other pre-conference workshops, and of course, the rest of the conference lectures and workshops. This year’s exchange with our GLATA colleagues is on Saturday, where they will present an EBP lecture on Airway Management and Evaluation Skills. Then, we all will have the opportunity to practice those skills in a different type of workshop format. Both presenters will be in a room for 4 hours Saturday afternoon with a variety of models, so that we can drop in as our schedule allows, to get the training we need to be able to utilize those skills in our professional practice. All of the models are being supplied by a company called, limbsandthings. I hope you will also visit them at their booth in the exhibit hall.
We are honored to welcome Denise Fandel as our 2020 William E. “Pinky” Newell speaker. As you know, Denise has just retired after serving as our BOC Executive Director for 22 years. Denise built the BOC from a group of volunteers to a well-respected professional organization with a full-time staff of 19. Her leadership experience began as a volunteer for the then, National Organization for Competency Assurance program committee, before serving as chair of the National Commission for Certifying Agencies and as chair of the Institution for Credentialing Excellence Board. Her active participation provided a strong network for the work she does, and also gave her, as she calls it, the “certification bug.” I’m sure her message to us will be inspiring and motivating!
There is no question that there will be something for everyone at this year’s EATA!
Please note the following important days and times as you plan to join us at Foxwoods!
Be sure to register early, especially to reserve your space in the workshops!
