EEMS ACCELERATE
THE ULTRA LOW CARBON VEHICLE DEMONSTRATOR PROGRAMME (ULCVD)
Launched in 2009, the ULCVD was the largest demonstrator trial of its kind in Europe. Its 12 months of real life road trials were undertaken by no fewer than 340 low carbon emissions vehicles. Of the eight participating consortia part funded by the Technology Strategy Board, one stood out as uniquely British: EEMS Accelerate.
A consortium of organisations including AEA, Delta Motorsport, Ecotricity, Lightning Car Company and Westfield Sports Cars. The aims of the EEMS Accelerate programme were to showcase electric vehicles using cutting edge British design and engineering; to motivate British industry to pursue further research and development in electric vehicles and to challenge the preconceptions of electric vehicles held by the general public.
Now at the end of the ULCVD programme and with future plans set firmly in their sights, our panelists will offer attendees an essential insight into the following key topics and answer questions such as:
* How important is it that the government supports the EV industry through initiatives such as the ULCVD programme;
* Key qualitative and quantitative learnings from the ULCVD programme;
* Is ultra low carbon vehicle technology in the UK at a promising stage of development and suitable for everyday use;
* Is the UK well placed to play a competitive role in an emerging global low carbon vehicles market;
* What were the consortium reasons for participating in the ULCVD programme, their subsequent challenges, gains and how do they see the future of EV technology and industry;
* What lessons were learned specifically regarding range extension;
* Comments and pointers regarding the UK’s EV infrastructure;
* Is ultra fast charging the way to go;
* Does EV motor racing have a role to play in the propagation and acceptance of EVs to the wider public.
