The NAIC can help you master the fundamentals of insurance with our An Introduction to the Insurance Industry and its Regulation text/test-based course! Primarily designed to provide both new regulators and industry professionals with a working knowledge of insurance, this course also offers a balanced, systems-oriented view of how industry professionals and regulators work together to protect and meet the needs of consumers. Through independent study, you will be introduced to such topics as the role of insurance in our economy, insurance and the management of risk, and insurance product lines, among others.

You have six weeks to complete this Text/Test-Based Course.
You will receive the text An Introduction to the Insurance Industry and its Regulation at the address indicated on your registration form prior to your selected start date. During the first five weeks of the course, you will read the course text. You will receive a separate e-mail at the beginning of your sixth week with instructions on how to access the online exam.
You have two attempts to successfully complete the exam, and both attempts must be completed within the six-week time frame.
View the Syllabus for a suggested learning schedule. Unlike face-to-face courses, participants in text-based courses set the study pace and manage their time accordingly. It is recommended that a minimum of two hours per day is set aside for study.
Ten (10) credits will be listed on the certificate for this course. Partial credit is not awarded.
Continuing education materials are sent upon request and based on successful completion of the course. Successful completion of the course is achieved when you study the text and achieve a passing score of 70% on the exam within six weeks of beginning the course. A certificate will be sent within two weeks of the course's completion.
Tuition is $295 (waived for State Insurance Department Staff, Funded Consumers, and Unfunded Consumers)
The tuition includes the course text An Introduction to the Insurance Industry and its Regulation and access to the online exam. If it is necessary to retake the exam, an additional fee of $25 will be charged.

Cancellations Withdrawals for full refund are permitted up to two weeks before the beginning date of the course; cancellations after this date will result in no refund. Notification of cancellation must be received in writing (fax to 816-460-7544 or email education@naic.org). If issued, refunds will be mailed after the completion of the course.
