Dr. Richard Gerver - Keynote / Day 1 Closing Plenary
Innovator, Educator, Advisor to the UK Government and Author

Richard Gerver has been described as one of the most inspirational leaders of his generation, he argues however, that great leadership is about serving the needs of the people that work for you and rely upon you. The three core principles that underpin Gervers philosophy are communication, empowerment and impact.

Richard’s insights into education, purpose, change and leadership have seen him work with organisations including Harrods, Deloitte, Google and Technicolour as well as schools and Governments around the world. His influence has led to him advising the music industry as well as Olympic and elite sports organisations. His mantra remains the same: systems and structures change nothing; people do. Richard is the author of Creating Tomorrow’s Schools Today (now in its second edition), which has become a seminal text around the world for those engaged in the transformation of education.

Keynote: Education that makes a Difference

Richard will talk with passion, authenticity and practical experience about how to build an innovative education system that delivers high impact for learners. He will share insights gained from; his own experiences, of leading the development of one of the world’s most innovative schools, together with unique insights from world leaders, Nobel Prize winning scientists and business titans. He will challenge us to consider the future of education and the challenges we all face to ensure that our students are prepared not only to survive but thrive in an exponentially changing world. Thanks to his involvement at all levels of education; from early years, to university to policy level, Richard will create a narrative for delegates that asks us fundamental questions about leadership, curricular design and quality all based on clarity of vision, values and purpose.

Plenary: Quality Management: Concepts and applications and how to manage quality in education

Richard will look beyond statistical data to explore the concept of quality in human terms. He will share his insights into the links between high performance leadership, coaching and teaching; exploring the critical skills around the four critical factors of: Standards, Monitoring, Analysis and Feedback. Richard will discuss how trust, mistake making and interaction are vital to establishing sustainable quality learning environments. He will also highlight the power of communication and the need to focus on knowledge and skills. The session will build on exemplification from education as well as unique insights from Richard’s work with organisations such as Apple and Google.

The purpose of this presentation is to explain to the audience that the purpose of education is to teach people how to educate themselves. Audience will be provided with some ways on how to research, how to learn different subjects, and how to be able to create solutions to exciting problems faced in day-to-day lives .One of the objectives is to help the community in fighting rumors spread by social media. knowing how to find credible vs non-credible sources are important in an era where anything could be posted on the internet by anyone.

Researching is a much needed skill and it's really not that hard. Determine the types of information you'll need. This includes things like the format of the material, how important time is to your topic, how important place and languages are to your topic too.
