The Energy Efficiency Symposium 2015 will cover three research areas: Heat Pumps, Data Centers, and Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM). Each topic will take place on a separate day, so please plan to attend whichever day/s that best fits your interest. All invitees are welcome to attend all 3 days.
DAY 1 – HEAT PUMPS
EPRI & Southern Company invite you to the 3rd Symposium on Advanced Heat Pump Technologies for Residential & Small Commercial Applications on Wednesday, November 11th in Orlando, FL. The meeting is intended for utility program practitioners, HVAC manufacturers and other stakeholders with direct influence on advancement of heat pump technologies. The theme of the meeting is the application and deployment of Next-Generation heat pump technologies through the utility program structure. Initiatives including Energy Efficiency, Demand Response, Electrification, Environmental Compliance and Service Contracting/Home Warranties are all potential beneficiaries of advanced heat pump technologies. The presentations and discussions participated in by utility, research, and manufacturing specialists will help to define currently achievable implementations of advanced heat pump systems in a variety of climate conditions.
DAY 2 – DATA CENTERS
EPRI invites you to participate in our 1st Data Center Symposium on Thursday, November 12th in Orlando, FL. This event will bring together electric utilities, data center owners and operators, equipment manufacturers and solutions providers, and other stakeholders with direct interest in enhancing energy efficiency in data centers and IT equipment rooms. The participants will engage in technical discussion on the trends and emerging technologies in data center infrastructure and IT equipment hardware and software that will drive energy efficiency, and challenges and opportunities in its adoption. Data centers and server rooms are estimated to drive 2-3% of the total electricity consumption and are growing rapidly at more than 6% a year, approaching the limits of electrical infrastructure in some areas. To address reliable power availability, utilities spend several hundred million dollars annually to enhance the energy efficiency for its end users. The open dialogue at this meeting will lead to a bold agenda for developing technologies and solution where robust utility incentive programs could be leveraged for faster adoption that may include technology transfer, early field demonstrations and targeted R&D activities in this area.
DAY 3 – NON-INTRUSIVE LOAD MONITORING (NILM)
EPRI invites you to the 2nd Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM) Industry Workshop on Thursday and Friday, November 12th & 13th in Orlando, FL. (A reception with vendor displays is scheduled for Thursday evening and the meeting will take place on Friday.) The workshop serves to continue the activities identified at the first EPRI workshop held in November 2013, namely utility use case development and exploration of ways to address gaps or challenges facing NILM technologies for utility applications. This workshop will provide a platform to facilitate technical discussions between NILM product vendors, disaggregation service providers, utilities and other stakeholders to gain insights into product capabilities, utility needs, and specific activities to address gaps and propose solutions to mitigate them. Key gap areas identified for discussion are performance measurement (metrics), evaluation protocols and methods, product label descriptors, data interfaces and integration. Presentations and discussions addressing metrics, protocols, and product labeling will consolidate and streamline the value proposition of NILM products and services for electric customers and utilities. Representatives from utilities, manufacturers, data service providers, consumer or public advocacy groups, regulators, national labs, system integrators and researchers are encouraged to attend.
