ABOUT THE SUMMIT

The EnergyWaterFoodNexus (EWFN) is a biennial International Summit hosted by Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). The 2019 EWFN will be held on Thursday and Friday, November 7 and 8, 2019, in Tallahassee, FL, at the Lawson Center on FAMU’s campus. This new science enterprise was launched in 2015 at FAMU through a global public-private partnership that seeks to provide sustainable and innovative solutions for energy, water and food security. The nexus approach is based on the premise that an action in one sector impacts the other. Therefore, the search for solutions must simultaneously investigate all three elements in a new science enterprise.

The upcoming 2019 International Summit will continue to connect participants, growing the global network of public and private sector industry stakeholders working in the energy, water and food sectors.  Water holds the key as the driver for a sustainable future and agricultural production as irrigation is used to produce 40% of farm output worldwide.  How we integrate these three systems present great opportunities for our economy. This summit serves as a space to effectively communicate science to the general public why this is a good thing for jobs, how it benefits the economy and the overall livability of our planet, and why these solutions are important to everybody.
