Awareness of issues related to poverty and use of effective communication strategies are essential for anyone who works with children and families in building relationships with families and connecting them to supports they need. This workshop focuses on understanding poverty and practical strategies that can improve communication with families living in poverty.

Upon completion of Engaging Families in Poverty, participants will be able to -

  • Identify the effects of poverty on families and young children.
  • Determine strategies for communicating with families living in poverty.
  • Describe ways to connect families with helpful community resources.
  • Plan a family engagement event to build relationships with families.

Credit Information

2.0 professional development hours, that meet DPW and Keystone STARS requirements, will be awarded in K 3.5 C2.
