English Language Development Series

Who are English Language Learners?

Generally speaking, English-language learners do not have the English-language ability needed to participate fully in American society or achieve their full academic potential in schools and learning environments in which instruction is delivered largely or entirely in English.

The learner will become familiar with and be introduced to strategies in each area of:

1. English Language Learner Identification
2. A research-based process for the effective teaching of ELLs
3. Curriculum design and lesson planning based on sound pedagogical principles, practices, and high standards
4. Strategic methods to employ for making grade-level materials and resources comprehensible for ELLs
5. Resources that will help educators learn more about effective, differentiated teaching strategies specifically addressing ELLs.
