Enhancing Excellence in Assessment: One Size Doesn't Fit All: Making ILOs Work for You @ Suffolk County CC

This one-day workshop on Institutional Learning Outcomes will focus on building Institutional Learning Outcomes that are effective, meaningful and interrelated with program/degree goals and the institution’s mission. Workshops will be offered in three regional locations and will have the same agenda, with slight variations based upon registrant input. Dr. Deborah Moeckel, SUNY System Administration, will discuss ILOs and provide an overview. The program will also feature a host institution speaker who will their expertise and experiences with ILO development, accreditation and assessment. Participants will bring their ILOs and as active participants will work in small groups to further develop and refine them with colleagues. The event will better enable SCoA to provide structural support to member institutions.

Participants will:
  • Increase their awareness of Institutional Learning Outcomes and Middle States Commission on Higher Education standards.
  • Learn about institutional experiences and best-practices in assessment, accreditation and compliance.
  • Network and explore connections to support mature assessment across their campuses.
  • Collaborate with peer institutions to develop, refine, and discuss their ILOs.
  • Understand the differences between SUNY General Education requirements and Institutional Learning Outcomes.
  • Relate the strength and effectiveness of ILOs to improvements in student learning and the student experience.
  • Brainstorm assessment and accreditation experiences.
