How can evaluation do more than just measure?

By widening our concept of evaluation we can think differently about the problems we address and the ways that we address them in our organizations. Engaging a framework of equity-minded evaluation gives us an opportunity to apply the concepts of equity and inclusivity to the processes of program planning, management and outcomes measurement, and helps us situate our organizations’ outcomes in the context of larger systems-level change.

Equity-minded evaluation is a vehicle for reflection and deliberate planning in organizations. In this training, we will together test our own assumptions, broaden our definitions of impact, and learn how to apply evaluative thinking across organizational functions.  This training will challenge participants to:
  • Ask “are we doing the right thing?” (rather than “are we doing things right?”)
  • Consider the value that diverse contributors can bring to the design and implementation of your evaluation activities
  • Critically analyze your organization’s measures of improvement
  • Understand power and privilege in evaluation
