Erosion & Sediment Control/Stormwater Site Manager (includes optional NCDOT Level II Initial Certification exam)


This one day course is designed for those who supervise, run or direct grading work, culvert replacement work, and bridge construction work over rivers and streams. This course will cover permit requirements, roles and responsibilities, applicable specifications, and interpretation and best management practices to minimize or control erosion and sedimentation. Other topics include soil erodibility, turf establishment techniques, grading techniques to minimize erosion, timing of installations, and proper installation of best management practices. Also covered will be implementation of the erosion/sediment control plan, requirements of various regulatory agencies, and consequences of permit violations. This class is ideal for those who have some knowledge about erosion and sediment control practices, but who would like to gain a better understanding of current practices.

Field Training:
The Mills River class does not contain a field training component.
Those who are new to erosion and sediment control or who would like additional training and experience should attend a Raleigh class for a field training component. The Raleigh initial Level II class will last approximately 2 hours longer than those planned for other locations, finishing by approximately 5pm. (The New Bern and Mills River initial Level II classes will adjourn by 3pm.)

Who Should Attend?

DOT/CEI: Personnel acting as project engineers, project supervisors, and chief inspectors on grading projects, culvert replacement projects, and bridge construction projects over rivers and streams.

Contractor: Superintendent/foreman in charge of grading activities. Superintendent/foreman in charge of bridge and culvert activities over rivers and streams. Superintendent/supervisor of turf establishment/seeding contractor. Utility contractors. Bridge construction personnel directing river pier construction, channel work, approach embankment construction, riprap placement, and related construction activities over rivers and streams. Grading and bridge contractor personnel assigned to conduct NPDES sites inspections and fill out NPDES weekly log.

Previously Certified?
If you have previously been certified at Level II, and have changed employers, you do NOT need to take the initial Level II training again. Your certification stays with you when you change jobs. Register for Level II-R (Recertification) at the appropriate time for your renewal.
