Talk About Their Work

OUR MISSION

• Share experiences across the global expressive arts therapies community
in the spirit of the Expressive Therapies Summit slogan
Stronger Together

Preserve our stories for the sake of our professions

• Provide information and inspiration for those who seek to become,
or seek services from, arts therapies practitioners

It is our hope that professionals, students, and others who wish to learn more about and promote the use of art, drama/psychodrama, dance/movement, story/narrative/journaling, music, play/sandplay, poetry/bibliotherapy, and related approaches in therapy will visit this site repeatedly to partake of the reflections, insights, feelings, and wisdom offered in these brief audio files.

We ask everyone who enjoys these heartfelt stories
to please let others know of this unique resource!

WANT TO CONTRIBUTE YOUR OWN
AUDIO TO THE ARCHIVE?

IT'S EASY TO PARTICIPATE!

HERE'S HOW

* Record and submit your audio commentary at www.soundcloud.com, using the built-in microphone of your computer or digital device. Register for the site (it’s free) simply by creating a user name (most helpful to use your real name in this instance).

You are strongly encouraged to upload a photo of yourself, a work of art, or a nature image to accompany your commentary.

* Once registered, click the Upload button at the top right of the page. Click on the red REC circle, and you’re ready to record.

Click video demo to see just how simple the process is

* Begin by reading from our Standard Greeting below, filling in the blanks as you go. After that, it’s up to you! Please limit your commentary to no longer than 2 minutes and 30 seconds. If your submitted file is too long, we reserve the right to edit or not post it.

HELPFUL HINT: If you’re less comfortable speaking off the cuff, you might find it helpful to get your commentary written out before you record, then just read from it.

Avoid 'ah, uh, and um' syndrome Be prepared before you record . . . or take the time to re-record if your first try sounds too noisy, tentative, or unclear.

AUDIO TIPS

Make sure your recording device’s sound is turned up and you are close to your microphone.

Speak slowly and clearly, as if the listener needs to take notes on what you are saying.

Do not use your keyboard, fidget with papers, jewelry, coffee mug or phone while recording. If your file is noisy, please re-record; don't send it to us.

SUGGESTED GREETING
Start by Reading This:

Hello/Hi/Greetings — My name is ___________, and I work as a(n) ___________ in ___________.

I’ve been a practicing arts therapist for
(duration), and am credentialed in/as a ___________.

I work primarily with
(populations, treatment focus) and my focus is
___________.

There is no need to say "thank you" at the end, but if you do, please say something more substantive, like "thank you for taking the time to listen." Wish people well in their pursuit of education, career, or healing in the arts therapies.

SUGGESTED TOPICS FOR YOUR COMMENTARY

Please select one or two for your commentary:

• What drew you to choose this profession?

• Describe a moment in your work (without revealing any confidential information regarding a client or situation) that made you proud to be a creative arts therapist.

• What would you like people unfamiliar with your field to know about it?

Once you’ve clicked to stop your recording, you will be given the option to re-record, if you wish. On the next screen, title your file using your name and modality.

It is very important that you title your file "Your Name
(space)(space) Arts Modality" as in this example:  Margaret Naumburg – Art Therapy (note initial caps)

Keep your file Public, so everyone will be able to access it. Click on the SHARE button located directly under the recording, and select the WIDGET CODE (not the Link) from the window.

Soundcloud SHARE

Email that WIDGET CODE to Linda Turner at artsaudioarchive@gmail.com, and we'll post it.

Please Note: The Audio Archive reserves the right to curate all submissions for duration, content, and quality, and do light editing on files as necessary.
