CACTX 2014

Family Advocacy 201: Enhanced Skills for Comprehensive Advocacy Services

This intermediate family advocate training spans two (2) days and is the second of three (3) components that comprise CACTX’s Family Advocacy Core Curriculum. 201 is specifically designed for advocates who provide support services to children and families within a children's advocacy center setting.

Participants will develop an understanding of trauma, trauma-informed services, and risk assessment and safety planning along with comprehension of the advocate role and other CAC services such as mental health and medical evaluation. Additional coursework includes an overview of the criminal justice and CPS systems, court education, support, and accompaniment, and protective orders. The curriculum is developed to provide advocates with specialized knowledge and skills that will equip them to offer a broader array of support services to children and their non-offending caregivers.

Format: This interactive program includes lecture on and discussion around current literature and research articles, review of applicable laws and standards, hands on activities and role play, and expert guest speakers.
