ON JUNE 7-8, 2013, the FAMU Cooperative Extension Program will host the 4th annual FAMU Farm Fest at the FAMU Research & Extension Center, located at 4259 Bainbridge Highway in Quincy, Florida Farm.
The primary aim of the FAMU Farm Fest is to promote public awareness of the full scope of the “land-grant concept” in education which embraces teaching, research and extension (outreach) at Florida A&M University. The FAMU College of Agriculture and Food Sciences supports the multi-billion agriculture and food sciences through producing graduates to serve these global professions. Local farmers, producers, and families in the Big Bend and surrounding counties are invited to attend this event, which will be both educational and entertaining.
Farm Fest 2013 will be a two-day event which includes a Funding Educational Seminar for small farmers on Friday, June 7, from 9 – 5 p.m. at 1740 S. MLK, Jr., Boulevard, Perry Paige Auditorium, FAMU's Campus, Tallahassee, Florida 32307. Informative presentations by representatives from Farm Credit, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Farm Service Agency and the Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education (SARE) will serve to enhance public awareness of resources and support that is available for small farmers to improve economic profitability for their agricultural enterprise.
ON SATURDAY, JUNE 8th, at the FAMU Research & Extension Center, located at 4259 Bainbridge Highway in Quincy, Florida Farm from 9 - 3 p.m. Farm Fest continues with educational exhibits and presentations on agro-forestry, container gardens, horticulture,livestock, urban markets, and vegetable production. Farm Fest is family-friendly; and adults and children will enjoy the health and nutrition awareness displays and screenings, and door prizes. There will be product tasting and sampling for all to enjoy. Vendor booths are available for companies, agencies and individuals interested in participating.
