Farmington EMS Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Education Program Spring 2018

The EMT Education Program is a 192 hour course designed to educate individuals to provide basic level comprehensive emergency medical care and transportation to victims of serious illness or injury. This course follows the 2010 National EMS Education Standards which are based on the National EMS Core Content and the National EMS Scope of Practice.

A mandatory orientation will be held on Tuesday January 9th at 6:00 PM.

Classroom sessions are conducted 6-10 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays and all day on Saturdays on 2/17, 3/24, 4/14, and 5/5. Course includes practical skill labs and clinical time. Upon successful completion of the course, students are eligible to certify (practical and written exam) via National Registry of EMTs.

The specific skills learned are: patient assessment, airway management techniques, vital signs, cardiac arrest management, use of an automated defibrillator, and trauma management skills including cervical spine stabilization, management of bleeding and shock, and various splinting techniques. This is an entry-level course in EMS and is a prerequisite for entrance into the Paramedic Education Program.
