As a professional athlete Karin Burger places a great deal of importance of strength & conditioning. At only 23 Karin is now a contracted Wellington Pulse member and Silver Fern Trialist.

Kim Churton
Kim Churton still considers herself a relative new comer to the Exercise Industry but loves the challenge of looking at health from a holistic view point and exploring how the mind and body are intricately connected.

After training as a Speech and Language Therapist, specialising in adult neurology, and then going on to gain a Masters in Health Management, Kim has developed a strong interest in how physical activity influences brain activity and the importance of effective communication for teaching and coaching.

Kim now uses these skills in her current businesses which include Group Exercise and Pilates classes under Body Rhythm Fitness and through Health and Wellness Solutions Ltd where she works with the Department of Corrections.

In 2016 Kim’s programme “Kia Kaha – Mind and Body” won the NZ Exercise Industry Award for innovation. This structured health and wellness programme is improving prisoner’s mental fitness through exercise with the aim to reduce re-offending.

Suzanne is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist based in Sydney, Australia. She has worked in both clinical and gym environments and is currently the Online Learning Manager at the Australian Institute of Fitness NSW. I found myself staring the big 50 in the face and wondering about my own 'senior years' and how fitness, health and wellbeing would play a part.
This led to me starting to train seniors (I run a Never2Old programme) and getting an enormous amount of pleasure and satisfaction from it. I'd really like to share with you the results of my fairly unorthodox methods of senior training.

Mark Davis
Mark is a physiotherapist with an extensive background in gym-based rehabilitation and over 25 years experience in the fitness industry. He was the founder of Springboard Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation. Mark currently works as a consultant to the Australian Institute of Fitness. He has presented internationally and is a key presenter in the Rehab Trainer courses. As an educator, Mark has been involved with the preparation of thousands of fitness professionals. Having completed my Masters degree in Media at Waikato University I eventually found myself working as a qualified personal trainer. It soon became apparent the negative impact social media was having on gym members and clients fitness journeys. Now, as a PhD candidate at Waikato University, my research aims to explore this problem. The project is centered on the impact social media has on male and female users sense of body satisfaction and the ways in which this influences the presentation of themselves online.

Rich Ellis has worked in the health and fitness industry for 8 years, but joined a relative late comer. Now an advanced health coach he won the PT of the Year award in 2016. Having a background in business management with a marketing degree he brings years of experience both in and outside of the fitness industry. Sue Giles
Sues 15 years in the Fitness Industry and personal experience with an Eating Disorder has created a passion for bringing an awareness around this pervasive issue. Sues business incorporates individual and group sessions in her private gym and regularly delivers brain and physical training for a retirement village. Sue has done extensive studies in Health Science, Nutrition and Ayurvedic Medicine.

Being a PT for 6 years and having numerous roles in which I coached other trainers, I found myself in a place where I wasn't satisfied with how much of an impact I was having. Sure, my clients were getting great results, the trainers I were coaching were becoming better, but I would still see the massive lines at the local takeaway, I would still see the 1000's of people with gym memberships and not using them. Now as a tutor I can produce amazing trainers, an opportunity I am extremely thankful for. The more people we can inject into the fitness industry with a quality understanding of how to change lives is something I want to be a part of! To expand my reach, I now press on to public speaking to hopefully inspire, educate, and grow others in the industry with the same passion as myself!

Dave Liow
Dave Liow is a holistic corrective movement expert specialising in exercise rehabilitation and athletic training. He is the co-director of the Kaizen Institute of Health on the Sunshine Coast, Australia.  Dave specialises in helping clients perform at their peak physical levels whether it be in their sport, hobby, or work.  He particularly enjoys the challenge of helping injured clients return to high performance.  Dave was a senior lecturer in Exercise Rehabilitation and Resistance Training in Exercise Rehabilitation for 10 years and completed a Masters degree in Physical Education researching explosive training techniques.  Dave was the head trainer for the New Zealand Black Sox for two successful World Series campaigns, and worked with NZ hockey for several Commonwealth and Olympic Games.  He was also the head trainer for the NZ Men and Women’s Golf Academy for several World Championships.

Originally from the UK I came to New Zealand at 21 years of age and accidently stepped into the fitness industry. I went to Les Mills to make friends and came away with a huge passion for group fitness that was to change my whole life. After 7 years as a member I began instructing and the best thing I found they offered was the continuous training- quarterly workshops. Free-style instructors have to source their own training/professional development. I was lucky to be around and learn from some of New Zealand's best Instructors.  I have 3 children- 2 have left home and a husband who is a GF instructor too. I now teach freestyle classes in a great work environment that fully supports me to deliver the best possible classes. I mentor and teach new instructors so that the centre will continue to provide the best classes possible. It's wonderful to have a job that I love and that inspires other people to achieve fitness goals they never thought possible.

Stephen Seth
Having spent the over 20 years in the fitness industry in roles such as Group Fitness Instructor, Exercise Consultant, Studio Co-ordinator and Fitness Club Manager, Steve now works as a Fitness Industry consultant and a Senior Assessor Mentor for Skills Active. He regularly teaches classes – including a drumming/fitness class called Drums Alive - and takes Drums Alive into schools as a fun alternative to P.E. Steve is also senior member of Tamashii Taiko Drummers - teaching their ‘Intro To Taiko’ class and running workshops in schools. Tamashii can regularly be seen performing around Auckland and further afield.
Steve has always embraced new, innovative class formats and often looks for ways to incorporate drumming into his classes (air bongos being a particular favourite).
He would like ‘hitting things with drumsticks while jumping up and down’ to be his job description.

Persephone started practicing yoga in 1997 when she left Canada to live in New Zealand and her career turned to teaching yoga in 2011. She presents at conferences, festivals and teaches workshops nationally. Persephone lives in Christchurch where she teaches yoga to workplaces, individuals and groups. “Yoga is so much more than the poses we strike on our mats; it invites us to be more present in life. My work calls me out of my head and into my heart where I find a body mind balance. I believe Yoga is a practice that anyone can do regardless of age, body shape or beliefs.”

Phill has a long history in the fitness industry, he originally started as a competitive lifter competing at the commonwealth games and junior worlds. He then followed on to competed various diplomas and a master’s degree. He now works as a tutor and works privately in the areas of strength training and rehabilitation.

Maria Teresa Stone
Maria Teresa Stone has over 20 years experience in teaching group exercise classes.
In 2007, Maria Teresa became a Zumba® Education Specialist (Master Trainer) for Mexico and in 2009 helped launch the program in New Zealand and Australia.
She has presented at many fitness conventions around the globe in both land and water group fitness formats, and trained over 20,000 Zumba® instructors in various specialties.
Maria Teresa was recently inducted to the roll of honour by Fitness Australia for her contribution to the fitness industry.

Kira Sutherland
Kira Sutherland is an experienced Naturopath and Sports Nutritionist with more than 20 years in clinical practice. She is the previous Department Head of Nutritional Medicine at one of Australia’s leading Naturopathic Colleges and has lectured in Natural Medicine for 15+ years both within Australia and overseas. She is passionate about working with athletes of all levels and has a special interest in endurance nutrition as she herself competes in Ironman triathlon. As a health educator, Kira works with: Colleges, conferences, corporates, sports teams, athletes and the media. She is currently completing her Masters in Sports Nutrition, running after her 10-year-old daughter and skiing as much as possible.

Justin is recognised world wide as a thought leader who challenges the status quo for the fitness industry. He’s a highly sort after speaker because he shares practical ideas from outside the industry that can be implemented immediately. He has spoken to over 172,000 people delivering 289 presentations over 18 years. In 2016, he trained in a different fitness business model every week for a year – boutiques, big boxes, crossfit boxes, PT studios – as a casual visitor to get the true consumer experience. Justin has conducted 168 meetings for the Industry Leaders Roundtable for club owners and personal trainers in Australia and the US. In his sessions, when you think and then implement you will stay ahead of the industry curve and grow profitability as his aim is for you to get you #hustlemodeon in 2017 and beyond.

Freya Thomson
With an 18 fight Muay Thai career, including 3 NZ titles and Muay Thai World Champs, as well as a black belt in Tae Kwon Do where I won Nationals and Oceanias, my knowledge of all things martial arts is expansive. Over the eight years of my personal training career I have come up with tips and tricks on how to create a fun and safe environment for my clients, and in doing so have created my largest revenue stream, Kick-Fit.
I believe boxing and kickboxing style classes can be enjoyed by all, and I look forward to sharing my ideas and knowledge with you.

Jeffrey Willoughby
Jeff Willoughby owns Studio41 in Wellington, New Zealand. Since 2005, Jeff has been designing fitness courses for health and fitness centers and lecturing internationally on the topics of training and nutrition. Jeff earned a degree in physical education from Otago University and has continued to broaden his knowledge by obtaining nutritional qualifications, such as through the Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine, and completing training in functional diagnostic nutrition.
