On behalf of the Florida Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists, I am pleased and honored to invite you to the 2012 FLASHA Annual Convention in enchanting Orlando, Florida, from May 24-27, 2012, at the delightful Buena Vista Palace Hotel. Our theme for this year is “Experience the Magic of FLASHA!” Our theme focuses on empowering speech-language pathologists and audiologists by promoting professional standards in the field of communication disorders through professional support and public awareness.
This year’s Convention promises to be very exciting due to magnificent changes and additions to the convention program and schedule. The program was designed to incorporate a variety of presentations that would encompass all aspects of our professions. We are pleased to be offering courses that will focus on pediatrics and adults in a variety of settings.
In pediatrics, there will be presentations that will target birth to three and school-age language, Autism, fluency, dysphagia, and assistive technology. A short course featuring Cheri Fraker, M.S., CCC-SLP, and Laura Walbert M.S., CCC-SLP, entitled Pediatric Feeding Disorders: PreChaining and Food Chaining Therapy will be a new full-day program track offered on the first day of our convention.
For the adult/geriatric population there will be presentations for dysphagia, aphasia, voice, and assistive technology. We are excited to welcome back 2-hour sessions for Grand Rounds in Dysphagia, Voice, and Psych with knowledgeable panels to share interactive case studies.
AG Bell’s Listening and Spoken Language Track continues again this year with a variety of courses focused on the education of Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
The Audiology track will explore topics related to cochlear implants, hearing loss, and hearing aids.
Our General/Related track will feature presentations about telepractice and business/management issues.
The professional courses offered have been designed to allow seasoned professionals and students to partake together in exhilarating presentations and discussions. Students will have a chance to participate in the new “Praxis Bash” sponsored by EBS and Signature Healthcare.
An exciting change to the convention program will be addition of a Parent-Caregiver Day. FLASHA is thrilled to offer the opportunity for parents and caregivers of individuals with communication disorders to attend educational sessions. Topics will include Autism, Aphasia, Listening and Spoken Language, and School-based issues.
In addition to the captivating program schedule, we will have numerous companies exhibiting. Exhibitors will be representing publishers of therapy materials and books, recruiting agencies, and communication technology experts, just to name a few. Of course, there will be numerous drawings for therapy supplies and other goodies.
Don’t forget, your full registration will include food offerings during the President’s Welcome Reception, Parent-Caregiver Boxed Lunch, Breakfast Worth Getting Up For, and the Annual Business Meeting and Awards Luncheon which is an event that should not be missed!
We are so excited to invite you to join us in Orlando so you can Experience the Magic of FLASHA 2012!
