The changing dynamic of public library collections requires designers to rethink how we light library spaces. Today's public libraries are in the process of shifting thier image and culture to accomodate the changing needs of their patrons. This session will cover the latest trends in library designwith focus on a recently completed LEED Silver public library in Cleveland, Ohio. It emphasizes how the Library's greater goals in meeting patron expectations, were echoed in the design choices. This presentation will cover luminaire selection and unique lamp/ballast combinations to achieve our reduced LPD of 20% less than code as well as a multi-layered control strategy with a Dali basis of design will be presented to understand the changes new technology has on the process of design. Control strategies included: Daylight harvesting, Ballast tuning, Vacancy sensors, Personal control, Automatic shading, Time-clocks and Load shedding. Real usage data will be shared as part of the presentation. This project was recognized by the IES for an International Design of Award of Merit in the new lighting controls category.
