Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) Aurora, CO

For ICU RNs, RTs and Non-Intensivist MDs

Course Description

The Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) course is a 2 ½ day comprehensive multi-disciplinary course addressing essential management principles for critically ill patients. This advanced course targets experienced critical care nurses, respiratory therapists and non-intensivist trained physicians who identify, stabilize and treat critically ill patients. (This is not an introduction to critical care course).

Education involves a comprehensive integrated lecture series, small group learning and skill stations, and a robust, patient centered, simulation component. The course is unique as course leadership, teaching and learning all involve a broad multidisciplinary collection of hospital care providers—intensivist MDs, advanced practice nurses and experienced RTs are the instructors. The course encourages communication, team-work, and builds relationships among attendees. After completion of the course, participants will be able to provide higher quality and more effective care to hospitalized critically ill patients.

Course Objectives

1.Prioritize assessment needs for the critically ill patient.
2.Identify appropriate diagnostic tests for the critically ill patient.
3.Recognize and initiative management of acute life-threatening conditions.
4.Identify and respond to significant changes in the unstable patient.
5.Recognize the need for patient transfer and prepare the practitioners for optimally accomplishing transfer.
