The 11th Annual GAFM conference will be held at Lanier Islands. This conference will focus on effective planning and education for sound floodplain management. Conference attendees will hear from subject matter experts from state, local and federal governments, and private sector consultants.

Buford Dam:  Tour historic Buford Dam while walking with guides from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  Learn about the history of Lake Lanier, construction and maintenance of Buford Dam, and the electric power generation from turbines to control room.  Please wear casual clothes and CLOSED FLAT SHOES.  No open toes or high heels will be allowed on the tour.  The tour begins at Lower Pool East at Powerhouse Road below the dam at 2 pm and expected to conclude at 3:30 pm.  The shuttle bus will be departing from Legacy Lodge at 1:30 pm.

John’s Creek Environmental Campus (JCEC):  JCEC is a state-of-the-art award winning wastewater treatment facility located along the banks of the Chattahoochee River; housed in an aesthetically pleasing “mill” setting with advanced water treatment technologies.  The campus also includes classrooms and labs for education, and a series of walking trails and bioretention facilities.  Board the shuttle bus at Legacy Lodge at 12:15 pm for an hour ride to the facility.  The tour should last from 1:30 pm to 3 pm. Please wear casual clothes and CLOSED FLAT SHOES.  No open toes or high heels will be allowed on the tour.

Flat Creek Stream Restoration, Stormwater Enhancement and Greenway Project:  Join engineers from City of Gainesville at the Flat Creek Greenway; a small, but well-functioning and aesthetically pleasing section of the 12 mile trail system.  Here we will walk ~2 miles and explore an impressive stormwater facility incorporating stream restoration, bioretention swales and ponds, underground storage, debris skimming, buffer enhancement, flood attenuation, pervious pavers, walkable greenway trail and plenty of parking for our shuttle bus.  Board the shuttle bus at Legacy Lodge at 12:30 pm for a 35 minute commute to the facility.  The tour lasts from 1pm to 2:30 pm.  Please wear casual clothes and CLOSED FLAT SHOES.  No open toes or high heels will be allowed on the tour. 

CFM Exam

The CFM Exam will be offered from 1-4 PM on Thursday, March 23, 2017. More details about the exam will be provided during the conference registration process.

 

Golf Tournament

The annual golf tournament will be hosted at the lovely Legacy on Lanier Golf Club. Tee times for the golf tournament tee times will be from 11:30-12:30 on Monday, March 20, 2017.[BE1]
