Gap Analysis SHORT WEB VERSION
Gap Analysis: Materials Discovery through Data Science at Advanced User Light Sources
October 3-5, 2018Santa Fe, New Mexico
Join thought leaders in a workshop identifying gaps and exploring data science issues (‘Big Data’) for materials science research enabled by the power of accelerator-based x-ray user facilities: LCLS/LCLS-II, NSLS-II, APS, ALS, SSRL. Contribute your vision of how to efficiently leverage our rapidly increasing data sources for materials science discovery.Workshop participants will explore all aspects of the process—from theory and simulation through experimental design and execution, detector reading, high performance computing, data reduction and analysis, databases and statistical inference. A particular focus of the workshop is how to allow data science and experimental design to automatically ‘guide’ the experimental parameters through statistical emulation, inference, and machine learning. The workshop will explore the overlap of these fields and the possible program growth at the nexus ofmaterials science, computing, algorithms, and light sources.
