The General Counsel Breakfast Club provides our CLO members with an opportunity to meet informally with their peers for a free-flowing discussion on a topic of mutual interest. Discussions are confidential, with no marketing or other agenda - other than to share experiences and best practices.
This month, our topic will be "Legal Department Strategy 2017." Does the legal department need a “strategy” separate and apart from the overall corporate strategy? If so, what are the important elements to such a strategy and what metrics should the legal department employ to measure its results? The breakfast program also will discuss how that strategy will help the department navigate its roles vis-à-vis the chief risk officer and chief compliance officer, and balance its roles as transaction facilitator and control function vis-à-vis its business unit clients. Brian Brooks, EVP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Fannie Mae will serve as our discussion leader and host (and will also discuss how he and his team went about creating the Fannie Mae Legal Department Strategy).
Continental breakfast and networking will available starting at 7:30 a.m. We will start the discussion at 8 a.m. and end promptly at 9 a.m. The session will be held at the Fannie Mae conference center, 4000 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, D.C.
We rotate the sessions among the jurisdictions that we serve, to ensure that all CLO members will have a convenient opportunity to participate several times a year. You are welcome and encouraged to attend as many sessions as your schedule permits. If you would like to host a session, or have a topic to suggest, please answer those questions when you register for this session.
