Mr. Bausman is Director for Investor Relations at AVG Capital Partners, a Russian private equity fund with $200 million under management and  substantial investments in Russian agricultural assets.  AVG controls over 500,000 ha of cropland, and has interests in grain production, poultry production, sugar processing, rice production and processing, processing of grain into industrial chemicals, greenhouse vegetable cultivation, and aquaculture.  AVG holds a controlling stake in one of the largest agro-holdings in Russia, Razgulay.  Mr. Bausman holds an MBA from Columbia University and is a specialist in the fund industry, and also has extensive experience in on-the-ground operations in Russian agricultural regions.  A native of the US, he has lived in Russia for 20 years and speaks fluent Russian and German.

Rajesh Chopra

Rajesh Chopra is currently the CFO of Mewah Group. He joined the Group in May 2010 and was the force behind taking the company public in November last year. His past experiences include 12 years with Olam in West Africa, London and Singapore. As part of the senior management team in Olam, he was a member of Management Committee, Strategy Working Group, Finance Policy team, Accounting Policies Team and Head of Standard Operating Procedures Task Force. Rajesh has an MBA from London Business School, and is Chartered Accountant and Cost & Works Accountant. He completed his professional accounting training with Ernst and Young.

He was also Director of Business Development for Bunge North America, Inc. Grahame Dixie has over 30 years of experience as a practitioner in agricultural development, with a primary focus on the interface between the private sector and international aid. He has worked in over 70 countries and at various times worked for most of the major development  agencies, some NGO's and directly with the private sector including private farmers, companies and investment institutions. During the last 5 years he has been the Senior Agribusiness Specialist at the World Bank, operating first in the South Asia region, and most recently has been appointed as the Agribusiness Unit Team Leader, within the central Agriculture and Rural Development Department.

Ananda Falisse

Ananda Falisse is the Managing Director of Timor Trade Pte Ltd a company that trades in agro products from Timor Leste, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Nusa Tengarra, Indonesia. For the past four years, Ananda has put in place relations with farmers and logistic companies in these frontier markets to procure agricultural products which are then processed and sorted locally for sale in European markets. In the process his company has become the second largest coffee trader from Timor-Leste and Myanmar. Prior to investing in agro businesses Ananda worked in Venture Capital in Europe. Ananda holds an MSc in Electro Mechanical Engineering from the University of Liege and Brussels and an MBA from INSEAD.

Mark Gibson
Agricultural Development Economist and Agri-Consultant

Mark Gibson's first practical exposure to agriculture in Sub-Saharan Africa occurred in Nigeria in the mid-1980s. Subsequently, he has undertaken agricultural project analysis and agribusiness assessments, developed and implemented projects, supply/value chains and trading agreements in Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, and South East Asia. He has worked with small-scale and commercial farmers, input suppliers, traders, processors, distributors, end-buyers, and the international financial community. Commodities and produce with which Mark has been involved include banana, cocoa, cotton, livestock, maize, oil palm, rice, soya bean, tropical fruits and wheat.

Prior to joining HAIG in 2005, Stephen was a business analyst for a securities processing institution responsible for credit risk management and held banking and finance positions with Wells Fargo and Morgan Stanley. He is a member of the Boston Security Analysts Society and the chairman of the NCREIF Farmland Committee. Stephen holds a BS in Finance from Iowa State University and a MS in Finance from Brandeis University and maintains an interest in the family farming operation in Iowa.

Francisco Lobo de Vasconcellos

Francisco Lobo is an Investment Director Agribusiness at Norfund. He has been in several board positions representing Norfund and other funds in the Southern Region of Africa. He was  responsible for setting up the first private equity fund for Angola, Fundo de Investimento Privado de Angola (FIPA). Prior to joining Norfund, Francisco was an Investment Manager at Aureos Capital with Aureos Southern Africa Fund (Southern Africa Regional Private Equity Fund), and an Investment Manager at  Mozambique Capital Partners Limited (MCPL) that managed Mozambique Investment Fund (MINCO), a private equity fund for Mozambique.

Gareth Lott

Aquanue’s Founder and CEO, Gareth Lott, is a successful entrepreneur with 25 years experience in marketing, communications and project delivery and in the successful commercialization of several business models.  He recently exited an event ticketing technology business he founded in 1999 (via a sale to a major client), having completed four years of successful R&D and subsequent product commercialization. Over the past three years Gareth has focused solely on developing the Aquanue opportunity and has conducted extensive research into the live seafood production and trade industries including multiple field research trips to China, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Edouard Peter

Ed Peter (CEO) is the co-founder of Duxton Asset Management ("Duxton"). Prior to joining Duxton, Ed Peter was Head of Deutsche Asset Management Asia Pacific ("DeAM Asia"), Middle East & North Africa. Ed joined DB in 1999 as Head of Equities and Branch Manager of DB Switzerland. He was appointed Head of Global Equities for Asia and Australia in March 2001, and became responsible for all of Global Emerging Markets Equities in the beginning of 2003. In November 2004, Ed became Head of Asian and Emerging market Equities for the new Global Markets Division. Ed started his career in 1986 in Swiss equity sales for Credit Suisse in Geneva. Prakash has recently assumed the position of Director for IFC’s Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services – Asia and Pacific Department (MAS-Asia), to be based in Hong Kong.  The MAS-Asia Department is focused on delivering development that caters to basic human needs for food, shelter, jobs, health, and education in Asia and has a global exposure of US$3 billion as of October 2011.  As part of its investment work, IFC aims to promote sustainability, corporate governance and corporate social responsibility among its clients. Mr. Prakash has an MBA from the University of Maryland, College Park and a B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India.

Martin Rushworth

Martin Rushworth heads the Oils and Fats Division in Felda Global Ventures Holdings, and is responsible for developing the midstream and downstream operations of Felda’s palm oil business. Born and educated in the UK, he joined Unilever as an engineering graduate in 1974. His 30-year career with Unilever included postings in three continents and eight countries. During his career in Unilever he was in senior positions in four countries, he was chairman and head of national businesses in two, involving consumer goods businesses that were vertically integrated into oil palm, and he was active in both the acquisition and disposal of oil palm plantations. After an active period in setting up and then selling his own businesses he joined Felda in early 2011.

Detlef Schoen

An agronomist, farmer and former global agri-business executive, since 2007, Mr. Detlef Schoen is managing partner of Aquila Capital Green Assets based in Germany and New Zealand. ACGA provides farm investment consulting and management services worldwide with a strong focus on pastoral farming in Oceania, with further investments currently targeted in Romania and South America - between ACGA and their asset management partners, the portfolio today consists of about 50 farms with a value of about $480m. Mr. Schoen began his career with Cargill and also spent time running his own farm services and grain merchandising business for a time before returning to global agribusiness.

Kevin Schwartz

Mr. Schwartz is Partner at Paine & Partners and a member of the Investment Committee of the firm’s $1.2 billion Fund III.  He joined the predecessor firm in 2002 and had responsibility for Fund II investments in Seminis, Inc., Advanta B.V. and VCST Industrial Products B.V. He was previously at Fremont Partners a private equity firm where he assisted with the management of approximately $1.7 billion of funds,  and prior to that time was in the Investment Banking Division of Goldman, Sachs & Co. Mr. Schwartz has a B.S. in Accountancy from the University of Illinois.

Prior to this, he was Global Head of Commodity Investors’ Derivatives at BNP Paribas in London where he had primary responsibility over the development, trading, and distribution of commodity derivative products. Prior to BNP Paribas, he spent more than 10 years at JP Morgan. Lionel graduated from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in 1995 (MSc in Applied Mathematics and Telecommunications).

Desmond Sheehy

Desmond Sheehy (CIO) is the co-founder of Duxton Asset Management. Prior to joining Duxton, Desmond worked for DeAM Asia from July 2005-April 2009, where he was the Head of the Complex Asset Investments Team. Prior to joining DB, Desmond worked at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) as a Senior Investment Officer in both Washington DC and Hong Kong, where he was responsible for the origination, execution and supervision of investments throughout Asia, working on several innovative and successful deals across the region. Before joining IFC, Desmond spent nine years as an engineer working throughout Europe and Asia on large infrastructure projects. In 1989 he became Head of Estates Department of Lonsum in Indonesia, with 50,000 ha of tree crops. In 1994 James started his own management consulting company focused on large scale agriculture in Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe. In 2008 as the founding CEO of Feronia Inc. he built an idea into a company with a market capitalisation of $ 90 Million. He recently joined MASDAR International Consultants who have 35 years’ experience in agriculture in emerging markets.

Jason Silm

Jason Silm has over 20 years experience in agribusiness funds management, strategy development, operations and supply chain management in grains, oil seeds, forestry, almonds and dairy industries globally and within emerging markets. Jason is currently based in Moscow as Head of Agricultural Investments for VTB Capital, Russia’s largest investment bank. Prior to this role Jason was the Global Operations Manager - Agribusiness for Macquarie Agricultural Funds Management. Andrew Sliper

Andrew Sliper heads the Asian operations for Macquarie Agricultural Funds Management (MAFM).  MAFM encompasses over 3.6m hectares of land purchased, developed and managed by Macquarie for agribusiness investments across sheep and cattle production, dairy, horticulture, viticulture, forestry, grains and oilseeds. Andrew has more than 12 years experience in the financial services industry across multinational organisations and boutique asset managers. He has worked in New Zealand, London, Sydney and Hong Kong and most recently advised a number of Asian investors on direct private equity investments into the New Zealand and Australian agricultural sector. In his previous roles with Macquarie, Andrew set up the co-investment platform to enable investors to access opportunities alongside Macquarie’s own balance sheet.

Hans-Willem van Tuyll

Hans-Willem van Tuyll joined the Cargill Inc group of companies in 1969 in Geneva, Switzerland. He held various positions in Holland, Brazil, Belgium, New York and Tokyo before returning to Geneva in 1979 to concentrate on non grain related acquisitions. In 1992 and 1997 he was elected to the Board of the Cargill International Pension, he also joined the Board of the Alternative Investment Management Association, initially as Vice Chairman and then as Chairman. Upon retirement from Cargill, Mr. van Tuyll remained an advisor to CIS until late 2005. Since then has joined a wide variety of Boards as non executive director or similar functions in financial and shipping industries.

Scott Weldon

Prior to that, he was a Director of Savills (L&P) Ltd, with whom he worked for many years. Henry has particular experience in large-scale international farmland investments; also the creation and asset management of investment funds / projects. He has had over twenty years of agricultural and other property experience, which has involved a wide variety of international agricultural and other real estate projects, many of which have been in Central and Eastern Europe. Henry is both a Chartered Surveyor and Corporate Finance Representative.
