Grand Canyon University's STEM Ready Series

Overview

Innovation is driving the U.S. workforce and economy. Science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education is the best way to prepare our students for their future, which is adding pressure on schools to look for ways to integrate STEM into their instructional practices and curriculum. Just as each student is unique, each school needs to customize a path and strategy that meets their unique needs to best serve their community. Is your school STEM Ready?

The STEM Ready workshop series is designed to help schools evaluate their current status, analyze their needs and create a strategic plan to implement STEM into their school at the proper level utilizing the Arizona Science Foundation’s STEM Immersion Guide as a tool. Each workshop will be an interactive, hands-on learning experience that will give a school team the ability to strategically plan and implement STEM based on an identified immersion level while building a portfolio of their progress throughout the school year. In addition to the workshops, schools will have the opportunity to have a STEM coach visit the school site to observe, guide, mentor and provide professional development for one day. At the conclusion of the series, schools that successfully complete the program will be eligible to apply for the GCU STEM Ready Grant to help kick-start an identified project or program.

Requirements:

  • School team of up to three people (administrators and teachers) to attend workshops and serve as leaders at their school site
  • Attendance at the four workshops throughout the year
  • Cost: $500 for team of three; $400 for GCU participant school teams (if you are unsure whether your school is a GCU participant, please contact amanda.hughens@gcu.edu)

Teams will receive:

  • Four full-day, interactive, hands-on workshops
  • Professional development hours
  • One day of a STEM Ready coaching at your school, customized for individual school needs
  • Portfolio created throughout the series that will become the basis for a strategic plan for STEM Immersion (at the level they determine based on their school)
  • The exclusive opportunity apply for the GCU STEM Ready Grant in spring 2018
